Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) made a significant arrest on Saturday, as they apprehended a headteacher in Buruburu following the unfortunate death of a 13-year-old pupil within the school premises. The pupil’s lifeless body was discovered outside the school director’s office, having fallen from a higher floor. However, upon closer investigation, the detectives found that the injuries on the body did not align with a fall from a higher floor as claimed by the school management.

In response to this tragic incident, the officers also took into custody the school director, the accountant, and another staff member to assist in the investigation process and determine the circumstances that led to the suspected murder. The seriousness of the situation prompted the police to process the site, which is now being treated as a crime scene. Both the staff and pupils have been advised to stay clear of the area until the investigations are completed.

The school director had reported to the police station that the class eight pupil at the boarding institution was reported missing at 6.30 pm after failing to attend supper. A search was conducted throughout the school’s eight-storey building, ultimately leading to the discovery of her body on a 1st-floor balcony outside the Director’s office. The body has been transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary for further examination through an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

In a separate incident, parents in Mwingi North sought police intervention after two pupils from a local school passed away within a week of each other. The pupils exhibited symptoms such as nosebleeds, yellow eyes, vomiting, flu, and severe headaches before their unfortunate demise. The school headteacher, Josphat Kimotho, mentioned that several pupils had complained of severe migraines, prompting them to seek medical attention.

The local Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Titus Kasinga, stood with the affected families in demanding a thorough investigation, as he expressed concerns about the safety of the remaining pupils. The urgency of the situation led to further scrutiny as the school allowed five pupils to seek medical treatment at a nearby dispensary following complaints of severe headaches.

The authorities are keen on uncovering the truth behind these tragic events and ensuring that justice is served. It is crucial for schools to prioritize the safety and well-being of their students, and any suspicious circumstances related to student deaths must be thoroughly investigated to prevent such occurrences in the future.
