Construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension Phases 2B and C, which will extend the railway line from Naivasha through Kisumu to Malaba, is scheduled to begin in March 2026.
The project, which is expected to boost transport connectivity across the Lake Region and the Kenya-Uganda border corridor, was confirmed by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Tuesday, February 24, after a consultative meeting in Kisumu involving local leaders and national government officials.
