A British national is seeking assistance from Kenyans after her passport and driver’s license were stolen from her car while in Nairobi.
According to a friend of the victim, the incident occurred when the woman and her friends parked their car outside a popular restaurant in the city. The group complied with the instructions of a security guard to park on the adjacent street, despite the availability of space in the restaurant’s parking lot. Later on, they found that their car had been tampered with and the woman’s bag, which contained her passport, driving license, iPhone 8+, and over Ksh115,000 (650 Great British Pounds), along with other personal items, had been stolen. The restaurant did not have CCTV cameras, and a similar incident had been reported at the Spring Valley Police Station from another guest at the same restaurant.
Further investigations revealed that the security guard who directed the group to park at the specified spot was an undocumented foreigner from a neighboring country and did not have any identification documents. The restaurant allegedly denied the incident and failed to follow up on the matter with the police station.
The incident comes at a time when there have been increased claims of insecurity in Nairobi, with the city being ranked 9th in a list of African capitals with the highest crime rates.
The victim is appealing to Kenyans for help in recovering her stolen documents. With the lack of CCTV footage and the guard’s lack of identification, the chances of recovering the stolen items may be slim. Kenyans are urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to prevent similar incidents from happening.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures and surveillance in public spaces. Without adequate security measures, individuals are vulnerable to theft and other criminal activities. It also highlights the need for businesses and establishments to take responsibility for the safety and security of their guests and customers.
Overall, the victim’s appeal for help is a call to action for increased vigilance and security measures in public spaces, as well as the need for businesses to prioritize the safety and security of their customers. Through the support and cooperation of the community, the victim hopes to recover her stolen documents and bring the culprits to justice.
