The Blockchain Association of Kenya (BAK) is fervently advocating for the release of Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of its employees who has been detained in Nigeria since February 26. The technology lobby group recently met with representatives from the Nigerian High Commission in Kenya to plea for Nadeem’s release.
Nadeem, a Kenyan-British national, was arrested alongside his American colleague after flying to Abuja for a meeting with the Nigerian government, which had extended an invitation to them. The arrest took place during a time when Nigeria was grappling with a foreign exchange crisis, which the government attributed to the influence of Binance.
BAK expressed deep concern over Nadeem’s detention without any charges being filed against him. The association described Nadeem as a prominent member of their community and a Binance executive known for promoting responsible engagement with governmental agencies in Kenya, Africa, and globally. BAK commended his efforts in fostering positive relationships and constructive dialogue between the blockchain industry and regulatory bodies.
A Nigerian court approved a two-week detention for Nadeem and his colleague on February 28, pending investigations into their alleged activities. Binance, the cryptocurrency exchange platform where Nadeem works, released a statement on March 13 pledging to work with Nigerian authorities to secure the release of the two individuals.
The statement from Binance emphasized their commitment to promoting the responsible growth of crypto in Nigeria and their dedication to bringing their colleagues back home. They vouched for the professionalism and integrity of Nadeem and his colleague, promising to provide them and their families with the necessary support during this challenging time.
The efforts to secure Nadeem’s release have garnered support from both the Blockchain Association of Kenya and Binance, highlighting the unity within the blockchain community in advocating for justice and fairness. The association and the cryptocurrency exchange platform are working tirelessly to ensure that Nadeem Anjarwalla and his colleague are reunited with their families and able to resume their work in the industry.
In the face of adversity, the solidarity and support shown towards Nadeem Anjarwalla reflect the values of collaboration and community that are integral to the blockchain industry. As the situation unfolds, stakeholders continue to monitor the developments closely and push for a swift and just resolution for Nadeem and his colleague.
