The 65th Sigona Bowl, which is the season opener for the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series and World Amateur Rankings, is set to take place at Sigona Golf Club course this weekend. A field of 156 leading amateur golfers from across East Africa will be gathering at the par 72 course, with the opening round set to get underway from 6.40am on Friday.
This year’s tournament has attracted lady golfers who will be competing for cash prizes and World Ranking points. All eyes will be on Kenya’s leading amateur golfer Michael Karanga who emerged as last year’s standout performer. Karanga registered 13 victories, including three major titles. His successful journey began at the same venue last January where he produced an unbeatable 10 under per 62 in the final round to claim the title.
The field includes other prominent players such as Kenya Railway Golf Club’s John Lejirmah, Vet Lab Sports Club’s Ebill Omollo and Isaac Makokha, Limuru’s Dennis Maara and Paul Muchangi, and Uganda’s Peter Tumussime and Felix Dusabe of Rwanda. A number of Kenya’s leading lady players are also expected to participate.
In addition to the Sigona Bowl, other tournaments are scheduled for the weekend at Kiambu Golf Club, Karen Country Club, and Thika Greens Golf Resort. Significant participation is expected, and an exciting weekend of competitive golf awaits both players and spectators.
