Buganda Kingdom Wednesday marked 31 years since the coronation of King (Kabaka) Ronald Mutebi II with the monarch remotely addressing an unusual gathering at the iconic provincial cathedral of the Anglican Church of Uganda, through a pre-recorded video.

Wednesday’s unorthodox occasion involved majesty and royalty as more than 1,000 guests packed inside the earthen chambers of St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, but it was a draw away from the traditional outdoor celebrations usually steeped in ancient Buganda beliefs in cultural sites around the kingdom’s 18 counties.
