TC, one of the survivors of the tragic boat mishap that claimed the life of Nollywood actor, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, has bravely shared his account of the events leading up to the accident. According to TC, the lack of experience of the person operating the boat was the primary cause of the incident.
The devastating incident occurred on the Anam River in Anambra State, where Junior Pope and three other actors lost their lives after their boat capsized while they were returning from a movie location. The news of Junior Pope’s untimely death was confirmed by Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, who also mentioned that the bodies of three other victims are yet to be recovered.
During an emotional Instagram Live session, TC recounted the moments before the tragedy unfolded. TC shared that before boarding the boat, Junior Pope had asked him what he was doing, to which TC responded that he was offering a gesture of goodwill to the water spirits by sharing a Fanta. The belief was that by making this offering, they would be protected from any harm. Junior Pope agreed to this gesture, showing his respect for the traditions and beliefs surrounding the water.
As they set off on the boat, TC observed that the person operating the boat was wearing an earpiece, and Junior Pope was recording a video. In a tragic turn of events, they encountered a small canoe with fishermen in front of them. Due to the operator’s lack of experience, he ended up steering the boat directly into the path of the canoe, causing the boat to somersault and resulting in the fatal accident.
The harrowing experience shared by TC serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise from lack of expertise in operating watercraft and the importance of safety precautions while on the water.
