Junior golfer Elvis Muigua emerged victorious at the season-opening Sigona Bowl at Sigona Golf Club, beating defending champion Michael Karanga and Kenya Railway Golf Club’s John Lejirmah by eight shots. The 20-year-old took the lead from the first round and secured the win with a three-round total of five under par 211, shooting two under par 70 in the final round.
Muigua expressed his excitement and pride at winning the Sigona Bowl, attributing his success to the confidence gained for the remaining part of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series. He had been preparing for the event with Karanga at Windsor and stated that the win was crucial for the start of the season.
Having won two KAGC tournaments the previous year, Muigua expressed his anticipation of playing in the Magical Kenya Open and being part of the South-Africa bound team for the All Africa Amateur Golf Championship. He also made a plea to the Kenya Golf Union chairman to allow him the remaining slot in the Magical Kenya Open.
Muigua received the trophy, Sh71,360, and 105 KAGC points for his victory. Karanga and Lejirmah finished tied for second place, each winning Sh35,680 plus 38 and 34 points respectively.
The next event in the KAGC series will be the Great Rift Valley Open in Naivasha from February 9 to 11. Kenya Golf Union Chairman Philip Ocholla thanked all the players who participated in the Sigona Bowl and emphasized the Union’s commitment to promoting and elevating the game of golf in the nation. He also expressed his anticipation for the Great Rift Valley Championship.
