Warner Music has announced a major development in their efforts in West Africa, as they partner with 26-year-old singer-songwriter Joeboy to launch a new record label. The partnership is expected to be solidified with a series of music camps to be held in Lagos, London, and Los Angeles.

Joeboy, born Joseph Akinfenwa-Donus, has had a successful career since signing with Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa in 2017. He has accumulated over two billion streams with hits like ‘Baby’, ‘Beginning’, ‘Call’, ‘Duffel Bag’, ‘Fààjí’ and ‘Sip (Alcohol)’. He has also released the albums ‘Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic’ and ‘Body & Soul’.

In this new venture, Joeboy will act as the CEO of the new label, with Deola Jaiyesimi and Teniola Akanni as head of label and head of legal, respectively. Joeboy expressed his desire to give back to the artistic community by scouting, nurturing, and promoting the next generation of talent. He aims to work with a global partner to help build his artists’ international careers.

Warner Music Africa managing director Temi Adeniji expressed confidence in Joeboy’s ability to scout and support new artists. Adeniji noted that there will be a lot of incredible music from Young Legend artists in the next couple of years.

Warner Music president of emerging markets Alfonso Perez-Soto also expressed his delight in working with Joeboy, highlighting the pivotal role of West Africa in Warner Music’s emerging markets growth story. He emphasized the importance of working with local partners who have a real feel for the music scenes in the region.

The partnership with Joeboy will also lead to the release of new music from the Young Legend roster within the next few months. The company is looking to take an innovative and unorthodox approach to discovering and supporting artists in West Africa.

The move by Warner Music in West Africa comes as they have been increasingly active in the region, working closely with independent Nigerian label Chocolate City and acquiring leading pan-African music company Africori. They have also enjoyed international success with Nigerian artists such as Burna Boy and CKay.

The partnership with Joeboy marks a significant step for both the artist and Warner Music as they aim to make a strong impact in the West African music scene and beyond. With Joeboy’s success and experience, the new label is poised to make a significant mark in the industry.
