As Jinja City prepares for a leadership transition, residents and local leaders are raising concern over worsening garbage accumulation, broken streetlights, and insecurity, warning that the city risks losing its reputation as one of Uganda’s major tourism and commercial centres.
From Ambercourt to Nalufenya–Clive Road West, and along Engineer Dhikusooka Road through Main Street to the Post Office, several parts of the city remain littered with uncollected garbage while darkness continues to engulf major streets at night following the breakdown of the solar street lighting system.
