The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon secured a spot in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations after a thrilling 3-2 victory over The Gambia in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire. Their hard-fought win saw them come from behind in the 89th minute to ultimately emerge victorious after 99 minutes of play.

Senegal emerged as the winners of Group C with nine points following a 2-0 win over Guinea, thanks to second-half goals from Abdoulaye Seck and Iliman Ndiaye. Guinea, who were second in the group prior to yesterday’s matches, dropped to third place with four points, the same as Cameroon.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria also secured their spot in the second round with a 1-0 win over Guinea Bissau, giving them seven points from three games, the same as Equatorial Guinea. Nigeria had previously faced Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, emerging victorious with a score of 3-2. The two teams have a history of classic clashes at the tournament, with the Indomitable Lions defeating the Super Eagles twice in the final to win the championship in 1984 and 2000. Nigeria did have a win over Cameroon in 1992, defeating them in the third-place match in Senegal, as well as in the quarterfinals at the Tunisia 2004 edition before their 2019 victory in Egypt.

The upcoming match between Nigeria and Cameroon promises to be an intense and exciting showdown, with both teams vying for a spot in the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations. Stay tuned for what is sure to be a thrilling matchup between these two fierce competitors.
