Prince Tom Iseghohi, a former gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), has recently secured the ticket of the Action Alliance (AA) in the Edo governorship primary election. This development has transformed the Edo State governorship battle into a four-horse race, promising a keen contest among experienced candidates.
Iseghohi, who previously served as the Managing Director at Transnational Corp of Nigeria, made the decision to switch to the AA after withdrawing from the LP gubernatorial primaries due to issues of transparency and monetization of the process. He went on to win the AA substitution governorship primary election in Benin with over 90% of the votes. His closest competitor, Chief Tony Omoba Ogie (D’King Mayor), a former gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), withdrew during the primary poll, showing his support for Iseghohi and the party’s direction under his leadership.
After his victory, the National Chairman of AA, Chief Kenneth Udeze, commended Iseghohi for elevating the party from being one of the smallest in Edo State to the fourth largest and fastest-growing party within just four weeks. The party has experienced rapid growth under Iseghohi’s guidance, attracting thousands of leaders and tens of thousands of new members in the last month. Udeze expressed confidence that AA is not only the fastest-growing party in Nigeria but also the frontrunner to watch in the upcoming September 21 governorship election.
In his acceptance speech, Iseghohi pledged not to disappoint the people of Edo State if elected. He expressed optimism about winning the September election and assured party members that his administration would implement policies and programs aimed at bringing comfort and joy to the people of the state. He emphasized his commitment to peace, unity, and prosperity for all citizens of Edo, drawing on the rich history and culture of the Benin Empire.
Regarding his vision for the state, Iseghohi outlined key areas of focus. He prioritized the safety and security of every citizen, promising to invest in modernizing law enforcement agencies, providing adequate training, equipment, and technology to combat crime effectively. He also highlighted his plans to promote community policing initiatives to enhance the relationship between the police and the people.
In terms of economic prosperity, Iseghohi pledged to introduce a living wage to improve the standard of living for citizens. He plans to assemble a team that will guide economic growth strategies and enhance the state’s credit rating to attract investments. Additionally, his administration aims to prioritize capital formation, revenue acceleration, and targeted expenditure in critical sectors to drive social and political prosperity.
Overall, Prince Tom Iseghohi’s emergence as the AA candidate in the Edo governorship race has injected new energy and competition into the political landscape. His vision for the state encompasses security, economic growth, and social development, setting the stage for a transformative leadership approach if elected. His promise to uphold the values of peace, unity, and prosperity reflects a strong commitment to the well-being of the people of Edo State.
