The All People’s Congress (APC) Party in Sierra Leone is currently facing a period of transition and turmoil, as whispers of discontent grow louder within its corridors. Founded in 1960 under Siaka Stevens, the APC has traditionally been associated with the dominance of a singular individual, often entrenched in the old guard. However, with the influence of former President Ernest Bai Koroma waning, the party finds itself on the edge of collapse, with internal strife and power struggles becoming more prevalent.

In this time of chaos, there is also an opportunity for renewal and revitalization, provided that capable and visionary leaders step forward to lead the APC into a new era. Names like Dr. Abdulai Bayraytay, Hon. Chernor Maju Bah, Fitzgerald Kamara, Dr. Marah, Rtd Major Palo Conteh, Dr. Richard Conteh, and others have emerged as potential torchbearers for the party’s future. These young leaders represent the change needed to propel the APC towards the 2028 elections.

However, it is crucial for the old guard, represented by figures like Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, and Alhaji Kemoh Sesay, to gracefully step aside and prioritize their health over party politics. A generational shift is necessary, where the wisdom of the elders guides the party but does not dictate its course.

Following successive electoral defeats, such as that of Samura Kamara, the APC must confront its shortcomings and embrace a new direction. Kamara’s failure to challenge the election results in court highlights a missed opportunity for introspection and reform within the party. His departure, along with other aging members, opens the door for fresh perspectives and initiatives.

However, challenges still remain within the APC, including the presence of opportunists like Hon. Mohamed Bangura, whose self-serving actions undermine party cohesion. The involvement of the Tripartite Committee, which includes both the APC and SLPP (Sierra Leone People’s Party), also poses a risk of diverting focus from the APC’s primary goal of winning elections.

Looking ahead, the APC must prioritize unity, strategic planning, and grassroots mobilization to reclaim its position in Sierra Leonean politics. The youth, who are disillusioned by the status quo, are calling for change and innovation. It is imperative for the APC leadership to listen to their voices and chart a new path forward.

In conclusion, while the APC may be facing challenges and disarray, it is within this chaos that opportunities for renewal and growth can arise. The party must let go of the past, embrace new leadership, and reaffirm its commitment to serving the interests of the people of Sierra Leone. Only then can the APC rise from the ashes and regain its strength as a significant force in Sierra Leonean politics.
