The ongoing inheritance dispute over the estate of late businessman Mzee Jackson Kibor has taken a new turn after the High Court ordered a forensic audit of his Will. The court has called for a forensic analysis of the crucial document to determine its legitimacy amidst the family feud. The widows of Jackson Kibor have been at the center of the drama, with the court ruling that the original Will must be submitted for extensive examination by document experts from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) within 10 days.
Justice Reuben Nyakundi, who issued the ruling, ordered Unitah Kibor, the younger widow, to hand over the Will to the DCI for forensic examination. The court also directed the DCI to file a report of their analysis before February 26, 2023, when a status conference on the succession dispute will be held.
The late Jackson Kibor, a farmer and politician, left behind a vast estate valued at more than Sh16 billion, including over 5,000 acres of agricultural land, commercial plots, and movable assets scattered across the country. His four widows and 29 children have been involved in a heated legal battle over the Will, with Unitah, one of the executors of the document, seeking to have it adopted. However, other family members have opposed the move and questioned the authenticity of the Will, accusing Unitah of altering it in her favor.
The court has also allowed parties involved in the dispute to submit new evidence. Among those objecting to the Will are Tecla Kibor, Irene Kibor, Paul Kibor, Carolyne Jeptanui, and Stephen Kibor. The late Kibor’s estate includes plots in Nairobi and beach properties at the coast. Mzee Kibor passed away on March 17, 2022, at the age of 88.
