To address the issue of power outages, similar to those experienced from April 11 to 12 in the area known as Grand Libreville, the President of the Gabonese Transition wishes to draw inspiration from the Ivorian energy model. Hence his visit, on Friday, to the Azito Thermal Center site in the Yopougon commune.

During his stay in Côte d’Ivoire, the President of the Gabonese Transition visited the Azito Thermal Center in Yopougon on Friday, April 12. Accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Hydraulic Resources, Jeannot Kalima, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema expressed his desire for his country to be inspired by the Ivorian energy model, as Gabon faces significant challenges in terms of electricity supply. This has been particularly true in recent months, both in the capital and in other parts of the country.

“The model of the thermal power station inspires us. We should not hide the fact that Gabon is experiencing power outages and there is no shame in admitting it. This model inspires us to address the energy and electricity shortage we have in Libreville and practically in all our cities,” he told the press at the end of his visit.

The Azito Thermal Center started operating in January 1999. The Ivory Coast’s energy production capacity increased from 2,269 MW in 2021 to 2,548 MW in 2022 and 2,907 MW in October 2023, according to reports.
