The tracks in Ilara Mokin, Ondo State, are gearing up for the highly anticipated 2024 Ondo Auto Rally, featuring the newly introduced X-kart race series scheduled to take place from March 29 to 30. The event is organized by the Work and Play Group, who have plans to host a total of five X-Kart series races throughout the year, with the first race kicking off in February in Shagamu.
President of Work and Play Group, Adeoye Ojuoko, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, promising a range of innovations and side attractions to entertain both participants and spectators. The inclusion of the X-Kart series in this year’s Ondo Auto Race is set to elevate the level of excitement and engagement. The race in Ilara-Mokin will be the second in the series, with plans to host the remaining races later in the year. Ojuoko emphasized their commitment to the development of Motorsports and their active role in promoting the X-Kart series.
The Ilara Mokin racing track is recognized as the first off-road track in Nigeria and has previously hosted three series of off-road races. This makes it well-equipped to accommodate the growing number of X-kart racers and enthusiasts. Ojuoko mentioned that the track has been optimized to meet the requirements of the X-Kart series, creating an exciting environment for the races to take place.
With the inclusion of the X-Kart series, the participant pool for this year’s event has expanded significantly. In addition to the regular car races and bike races, the Ondo Auto Rally will now attract racers from various states including Lagos, Oyo, Edo, Enugu, Nasarawa, Kwara, Osun, Kebbi, and Rivers. The event serves as a major tourism driver for Ondo State, showcasing thrilling on-road races in Akure, which has been a key attraction supported by the late former governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.
Aside from the X-Kart series, attendees can expect to enjoy a mix of vintage car exhibitions, bike races, drifting showcases, food exhibitions, and live music performances at the event. The organizers are dedicated to providing a diverse and engaging experience for all participants and spectators, ensuring that the 2024 Ondo Auto Rally will be a memorable and exciting event for Motorsports enthusiasts across the region.
