The 2024 ICEA Lion King of the Course series is set to continue with its second leg at the Ruiru Sports Club on Saturday. This golf series has grown to become one of the most sought-after golf series in the country, attracting a field of 232 entries for the upcoming event. This number includes players who have signed up prior to the deadline, with the possibility of additional post entries if accepted by the captain.
Jesse Ndegwa, the captain of Ruiru Sports Club, expressed his enthusiasm about hosting the ICEA Lion King of the Course 2024 third edition tournament. He emphasized that each year offers a special opportunity for growth and improvement. He also assured that the course is in perfect condition, and all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure smooth flow throughout the day. Ruiru Sports Club has a history of handling large fields of up to 300 players and it has also become a popular destination for corporate events.
Philip Lopokoiyit, CEO of ICEA Lion, conveyed his excitement about the golf series, citing the successful start at Machakos Golf Club in January. He emphasized that the series continues to grow and provide a great opportunity for engagement with clients, stakeholders, and golf enthusiasts across Kenya. ICEA Lion remains dedicated to fostering competitiveness within the sport and encouraging participation from both seasoned players and newcomers, making the tournaments a source of excitement, engagement, and community celebration.
The weekend kicks off with an event at the Thika Greens Golf Resort on Friday, gathering over 200 players for the corporate tournament. This event brings together CEOs and senior executives from across the country. Henry Kinyua, the captain of Thika Greens, welcomed the ICEA Lion King of the Course 2024 series to their 18-hole par 73 course, emphasizing the high-quality services and amenities offered at the resort.
Following the tournament at Ruiru, the series will move on to Nanyuki Sports Club in Laikipia County on March 9, before taking a break and heading to the North for an event hosted by Eldoret Sports Club and Nandi Bears Club. Additionally, Joe Mboya, the captain of the ICEA Lion King of the Course series, mentioned that the Grand Winner of the 2023 series will participate in the 2024 Lekoa Classic at Parys Golf & Country Estate-Vaal De Grace in South Africa.
The upcoming weekend’s golf fixtures include a line-up of players starting from 6:30 AM at the First Tee and Tenth Tee, with a diverse range of participants across different categories. These scheduled events offer a mix of excitement and competition for the golfing community, as they come together to showcase their skills and sportsmanship.
