Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is determined to return to AC Milan as a champion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The talented player has been a key part of the Nigerian national team’s success so far in the tournament, featuring in all three of their group stage games, which resulted in two wins and one draw.
Chukwueze made an impact as a substitute in the first game against Equatorial Guinea and earned a spot in the starting line-up for the subsequent matches against Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau. As Nigeria advances to the round of 16, Chukwueze has his sights set on securing the championship title and bringing it back to Milan.
Expressing his determination, Chukwueze emphasized the importance of making his club and country proud. “I can’t leave Milan to come here and not win a trophy, I really need it,” he stated. “I want to make my country proud and I don’t want to waste my club’s time for nothing. I have to fight for my position and win.”
Nigeria’s upcoming match against familiar rivals Cameroon will be a significant test for Chukwueze and his teammates. The last time the two teams faced off in the AFCON was in the round of 16 at the 2019 tournament in Egypt. On that occasion, Nigeria emerged victorious with a 3-2 win, with goals from Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi.
As they prepare to meet Cameroon once again, Nigeria will aim to replicate their previous success and advance further in the tournament. Meanwhile, Cameroon will be seeking their first AFCON win against Nigeria since the 2000 edition. This adds an extra layer of anticipation and pressure to the upcoming match, as both teams strive to secure a spot in the next round of the competition. With Chukwueze’s determination and the team’s collective ambition, Nigeria is poised to make a strong impression in the tournament and potentially fulfill their winger’s goal of returning to Milan as an AFCON champion.
