Through a declaration made on March 7, 2024, the president of the reformist party, Yacine Abdramane Sakine, announced his candidacy for the presidential election scheduled for May 6.
According to Yacine Abdramane Sakine, since 1990, Chad has been in an unprecedented situation. “It is a turning point where the general interest is purely and simply flouted and forgotten. The economy is in agony, foreign investors and companies are leaving the country. Chadian men and women are living a nightmare, but above all, they feel more and more like strangers in their own country. The country’s wealth does not reach its children,” he paints a bleak picture.
He states that this situation calls for new policies and strong solutions. It also calls for a “patriotic” man, who has a very high sense of the State, an honest and free man, for whom public affairs are sacred, a man capable of modernizing Chad. Thus, he justifies his candidacy in order to bring about deep reforms to improve the living conditions of the population and provide the country with “republican, democratic, stable, and just” institutions that reflect universal values of good governance.
“I am a candidate in the presidential elections because I want to make Chad a country where it is good to live. A peaceful country, safe from tyranny, impunity, all forms of discrimination, and injustice,” he announces.
His project is based on 4 axes. The first is the restoration of Chad’s honor, through the reestablishment of peace, security, and reconciliation among Chadians; the second on the happiness of Chadians through the availability of basic services; the third involves taking measures to build a robust economy and create jobs; and the last proposes to reform the institutions of the Republic in order to build a “real” democracy in which all Chadians will participate.
