Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon recently expressed his views on not receiving significant awards despite being in the movie industry for a long time. He stated that although he has not been recognized by award organizers in the country, he has remained focused and has found encouragement within himself. In a recent interview with Hip TV, Okanlawon emphasized that if an award comes his way, he would accept it, but he refuses to allow the validation of awards to define him.
Okanlawon admitted, “I have never won any of the serious awards in Nigeria. I have been around [in the entertainment industry] for long enough that if I were the type of person to feel a certain way, I would have been like, ‘Why had I not been awarded this or that?’ The truth is, I can look into my mirror and congratulate myself. I have done this all my life. And if recognition or validation comes from somewhere else, I will take it graciously. In fact, I had to learn to take compliments instead of deflecting them. Validation shouldn’t define you. If anything, my presence should validate an award, not the other way round.”
Despite not receiving major awards, Okanlawon has maintained a positive mindset and continues to focus on his craft. His ability to encourage himself and find value in his own work reflects the inner strength and resilience required to thrive in a competitive industry.
While many individuals in the entertainment industry may seek external validation through awards and accolades, Okanlawon’s perspective on self-worth and recognition underscores the importance of internal validation and self-appreciation. He acknowledges that external recognition is welcomed, but it does not define his worth as an actor.
In an industry where recognition and awards often play a significant role in an artist’s career, Okanlawon’s stance is a testament to his unwavering commitment to his craft. His dedication to his work and his ability to find fulfillment within himself sets an inspiring example for aspiring actors and artists who may also face similar challenges in their pursuit of success.
As Okanlawon continues to make strides in his career, his resilience and self-affirming attitude serve as a source of inspiration for those facing similar circumstances. His message of finding validation from within and not allowing external accolades to define one’s worth resonates with individuals across various professions and industries.
Ultimately, Okanlawon’s story serves as a powerful reminder that true validation comes from within, and while external recognition is appreciated, it should not be the sole determinant of one’s worth and success. His journey exemplifies the importance of self-empowerment and staying true to one’s passion despite the challenges and setbacks that may arise.
