Nigerian Singer, Simi Kosoko, recently shared that she has never charged artists for a feature. In a recent episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, Simi opened up about her approach to collaborations, emphasizing that she is selective about the songs she chooses to feature in.
The mother of one revealed that her decision to do a feature is based on her genuine liking for the song. “Till this moment, I have never charged for a feature. For me to do a feature I have to really like it,” she said. “I have to like the song. If I like the song, give me half a day, I am done. If I don’t like the song I will most likely say no. It’s not personal. I can take a ‘No. Things are not personal, it’s just what it is.”
Simi’s stance on featuring in songs reflects her commitment to authenticity and maintaining her artistic integrity. She prioritizes her personal connection to the music she collaborates on, rather than seeking financial gain from every opportunity. This approach not only reinforces her dedication to creating meaningful and impactful music but also sets a positive example within the music industry.
By openly sharing her perspective on collaborations, Simi has demonstrated that her decision-making process is rooted in artistic passion and honesty. Her willingness to turn down opportunities if the music does not resonate with her further showcases her commitment to producing work that truly speaks to her as an artist.
Simi’s statement serves as a reminder that genuine artistry and creative fulfillment should be valued just as much as any financial compensation. Her approach to featuring in songs highlights the importance of prioritizing artistic integrity and staying true to one’s musical vision. This authenticity is undoubtedly a key factor in establishing her as a respected and influential figure within the Nigerian music scene.
