Kenya’s men’s hockey five-a-side team secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the inaugural FIH World Cup in Muscat, Oman, after defeating Australia 7-4 on Monday. Captain Ivan Ludiali and Danstone Wabwire scored hat-tricks, with Bethel Masambu adding one goal for Kenya. For the losing team, Sugio Jun and Pace Mitchell both scored two goals, with Jun scoring in the 9th and 23rd minutes, and Mitchell in the 26th and 29th minutes.

Kenya currently has six points from three matches and is waiting for the outcome of the Trinidad and Tobago (TTO) versus New Zealand match to determine who finishes at the top of pool “C”. TTO has four points, while New Zealand is at the bottom of the table with one point. Kenya’s next opponent in the last eight on Tuesday could be either Oman or Malaysia.

In their first match, Kenya defeated New Zealand 6-1, but then suffered a loss to TTO with a score of 7-2 in the night match. The other quarterfinal matches will see Egypt play Poland and the Netherlands play India.
