The search for the next Chief Registrar of the Judiciary attracted 43 applicants, reflecting the high interest in the esteemed position. This comes after the retirement of Ms Anne Amadi, who served as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary. Only seven applicants have made it to the shortlist, and they will undergo interviews by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on March 18th.
The JSC has published the names of the seven shortlisted candidates. The interviews for these candidates will be conducted at the Judicial Service Commission Boardroom, CBK Pension Towers, 13th Floor, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi. This public announcement was made by the JSC to ensure transparency in the selection process.
Among the seven candidates shortlisted, there are four females and three males, representing a diverse group of individuals vying for the esteemed position. Their credentials and experience offer a glimpse into the potential candidates who will be considered for the role of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
The first candidate, Macharia Rose Wachuka, has been an advocate of the High Court of Kenya since 2011. With a Master of Public Policy from Oxford University and a Bachelor of Laws from Moi University, Ms. Wachuka brings a wealth of experience, having served in senior government positions for the past 10 years. She held roles such as Senior Foreign Service Advisor in the Ministry of Education and Chief of Staff in the Ministries of Education and Sports, Culture, and Heritage.
Following Ms. Wachuka is Ouma Jack Busalile Mwimali, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a human rights lawyer with a keen interest in legal education. Dr. Mwimali has extensive academic experience, having taught numerous law courses at various renowned institutions, which adds depth and knowledge to his candidacy.
The third candidate is Mokaya Frida Boyani, the Head of the JSC Secretariat, who also made it to the shortlist. Ms. Boyani was one of the shortlisted candidates for the position of Chief Justice in 2021, demonstrating her esteemed stature in the legal sector.
Anne Wambeti Ireri, with 15 years of experience in law, policy, and advocacy, stands as the fourth candidate on the shortlist, following Ms. Boyani. Her recognition as one of the top 40 women under 40 by the Business Daily in 2019 highlights her achievements and leadership in the legal sphere.
