Charles Kinyanjui emerged as the overall winner in a competitive field of 130 players during the 15th edition of the annual Mountain Classic at the par 72 Kiambu Golf Club course. Despite playing off handicap 21, Kinyanjui started strong with several pars in the opening nine, resulting in 22 points. Even though he faced some challenges in the back nine, he still managed to score 18 points, bringing his total to 40 points.
In the men’s category, Geoffrey Muiruri topped the list with 38 points, narrowly beating Ndirangu Gachoka, while Stephen Kiaro won the gross title by firing five over par 77. In the ladies’ section, Brenda Kihara claimed the top spot with 40 points, outclassing Jacinta Wakahora by four points. In the subsidiary section, Daniel Mugambi secured 41 points, and Larry Njue emerged as the Sponsors’ winner.
Additionally, James Maina won the Amicus category with 32 points, while Anthony Mwangi led the guests with 36 points. The longest drive winners were Peter Waiharo and Brenda Kihara, with Victor Kuria emerging as the nearest to pin winner.
At the Karen Country Club, David Mambo secured the A division title in the January Mug with a score of 72 nett, while Steve Waruhiu won the B division by carding nett 70. John Mutua emerged as the champion in the C division with an impressive 67 nett.
At the Thika Greens Golf Resort, Charles Obonyo claimed victory in the Captain’s (Henry Kinyua) Prize tournament with an excellent 45 points. Meanwhile, Bernard Oketch and Anne Gathuma secured the gross titles in the men’s and ladies’ categories, respectively.
The weekend also saw remarkable performances at other golf clubs, such as Nyali Golf and Country Club and Vet Lab Sports Club, where various divisions and categories witnessed impressive scores and winners.
