It’s official! The capital Conakry now has new municipalities. The President of the transition, General Mamadi Doumdouya, through a decree, promulgated on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the law creating new municipalities in Guinea.

This is Law L2024/003/CNT of January 18, 2024, creating 24 municipalities in Guinea adopted by the National Transitional Council (CNT) last January 18.

Lambanyi, Sonfonia, Tombolia, and Gbessia are the new municipalities created in the capital Conakry. These are added to the existing five [Ratoma, Matoto, Matam, Dixinn, and Kaloum].

During the presentation of the draft law to the national counselors, the former Minister of Territorial Administration argued that the creation of these neighborhoods into municipalities aims to bring local administration closer to citizens by reducing geographical distances and improving accessibility to public services.
