Cellou Dalein Diallo, leader of the UFDG, seems to have taken center stage in a series of never-ending mistakes. After lighting up the political dance floor during the September 2021 coup, where he admitted to taking a few joyful steps, the opponent of Alpha Condé seemed to have fallen under the spell of the military junta that had overthrown the latter. But as in any tumultuous love story, their relationship quickly came to an end, leaving Cellou to dance alone in the darkness of exile.
Just when it seemed like he had learned his lesson about how a democrat should never support a military coup, Cellou surprised everyone by picking up the phone to ‘congratulate and encourage’ the new Prime Minister appointed by the junta, Bah Oury. This decision could have remained a secret if the latter, a seasoned politician, had not chosen to share this information during an interview on RFI.
The current Prime Minister is known for his desire to extend the transition period, even before his appointment. In contrast to Cellou, who claims to be fighting for a quick return to constitutional order.
And that’s the paradox of his gesture towards him.
