Morocco has the largest network of Spanish educational institutions abroad with more than 5,000 students enrolled. This is a reality that Spain is now seeking to consolidate by strengthening its educational infrastructure and diversifying its educational offerings for the future generation of Moroccans. These students are very interested in learning Spanish as a foreign language. It is in this promising perspective that Spain launched the construction of a new Spanish school in Rabat last year.
With an investment of over 21 million euros, the headquarters of the school will be “the largest integrated institution in Morocco and the largest that Spain owns in the world, alongside Portugal,” according to Mr. Lorenzo Capellán de Toro, Education Counsellor at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Morocco. Construction is progressing at a good pace and will cover a period of 36 months. “If everything goes well, the school will open its doors for the 2027 school year,” said the official at the Embassy of Madrid in Rabat.
Demand is growing for Spanish education in Morocco, leading to the need for the new school in Rabat to accommodate the increasing number of Moroccans interested in Spanish education. Many Moroccan families choose to enroll their children in the current Spanish school in Rabat, which offers an educational system based on competency-based learning and promotes multilingual learning.
The new school, built on a 20,000 square meter plot with a total built area of 12,630 square meters, will have a capacity of 1,000 students. It will offer exceptional educational experiences for all levels, from kindergarten to high school, and prepare students through innovative projects, research, creativity development, collaborative work, coexistence plans, physical exercise, and sports.
Upon opening, the new Spanish school in Rabat promises affordable fees tailored to Moroccan context and may provide partial or total exemptions for families facing economic difficulties. Students who complete their secondary education and wish to pursue university studies in Spain will also have the opportunity to receive scholarships to reputable Spanish universities.
Efforts are being made to expand the list of Spanish universities offering scholarships to Moroccan students, with agreements already in place with the universities of Granada and Jaén.
