With its endless solar and wind expanses, Morocco has become the El Dorado of international investors looking for green energy projects. This exceptional visit, brilliantly orchestrated in collaboration with the French embassy, highlights the irresistible appeal that this market has on French companies.

On this subject, Yassine El Yattioui, a PhD student in Political Science and International Relations, explained to us that “The establishment of the French group Engie Solutions in Morocco has significant economic implications in the field of renewable energies, especially regarding green hydrogen. Engie Solutions brings its expertise and know-how in the development and implementation of renewable energy projects, which can accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen in the Kingdom.

By collaborating with local partners, Engie Solutions can contribute to job creation and skills development in the renewable energy sector in Morocco. For example, the construction and operation of green hydrogen production facilities require qualified personnel, which can stimulate employment in areas such as engineering, maintenance, and logistics within the Kingdom.”

A winning partnership
The development of renewable energies in Morocco represents a major opportunity for all involved parties. International companies find fertile ground for their investments, while Morocco acquires a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy infrastructure. This collaboration promises positive economic outcomes for both parties, in terms of job creation, technology transfers, and development of local expertise.

“Morocco must succeed in its ecological transition. By capitalizing on its strengths and implementing favorable cooperation policies as with the French group Engie Solutions, Morocco can play a leading role in the global transition towards a clean and sustainable hydrogen economy. The Kingdom must take advantage of the expertise and potential investment of the French group to diversify its green economy,” emphasizes Yassine El Yattioui.

An interest shared by many actors
Morocco is not limited to collaborations with French companies. The current dynamics also attract Chinese, German, and other actors who are actively involved in the development of green energy projects in the country.

Our interlocutor pointed out that “The green hydrogen industry in Morocco presents promising development prospects, supported by several favorable factors. Firstly, Morocco has a strong potential in renewable energy, especially solar and wind, which provides a solid foundation for green hydrogen production.

Furthermore, he added that “the Kingdom has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a sustainable energy transition. Green hydrogen can play a key role in this transition by enabling large-scale energy storage and powering various sectors, such as transportation, industry, and even agriculture. For example, the use of hydrogen in heavy vehicles, such as trucks and buses, can help reduce air pollution and diversify the country’s energy mix.”

“Morocco can benefit from international partnerships and financing to develop its green hydrogen industry. Countries like Germany, Japan, and South Korea are already cooperating with Morocco in this field. These partnerships can facilitate technology transfer, infrastructure development, and the creation of local jobs in the green hydrogen sector,” concludes Yassine El Yattioui.
