Kiddies Mirror Initiative is a group that has made the decision to focus on promoting unity, friendliness, tolerance, and discipline among teenage boys by investing in grassroots football. Recently, they organized a grassroots program at the L&K Estate Sports Field in Owode Ajah, Lagos. The event was open to sports fans, parents, and families, and featured football matches as well as an interactive session with the participants.
The grassroots football initiative specifically targeted boys between the ages of 12 and 17 from Lagbasa community and surrounding areas. During the event, Coach Imoleayomaria Anthony Obi, a sports consultant and child’s rights expert, spoke to the children about the dangers of cultism and other criminal activities. He emphasized how such vices could impact their dreams and aspirations. Coach Obi also imparted valuable skills to the boys that could benefit them in their football careers.
Another guest at the event was Mr. Olufolahan Olumide, the Chief Executive Officer of Folio Tech Institute. He encouraged the boys to not only focus on their football skills but also embrace Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and academics. According to Olumide, having a well-rounded skillset that includes technology and education would greatly benefit them as sportsmen. He spoke on the importance of ICT construction and vocational opportunities in today’s world, emphasizing the significance of early childhood education in technology.
During the hands-on session, Coach Obi divided the boys into two groups based on their ages. He was assisted by former female footballer, Esther Sunday. At the conclusion of the session, 20 boys were selected to receive scholarships to learn various skills at Folio Technology Institute.
