Government re-evaluates labour exporters amid rising concerns over exploitation in Russia

Russia is seeking to recruit an additional 470 young Ugandan women this year for work under the controversial Alabuga Start programme, despite mounting international concern regarding their security and human rights in a region bordering the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war front.
The beneficiaries are set to travel to Alabuga, an industrial zone located in the Republic of Tatarstan, over 500 kilometres west of the capital, Moscow. They will join approximately 200 Ugandan girls who are already residing and working in the area.
