Minister of Finance Olavo Correia emphasized the importance of culture for the future of Cape Verde and for the construction of a more diversified economy at the opening of AME 2024 on Monday night, March 1.
Olavo Correia spoke to the press at the end of the official opening of the 10th edition, a night marked by a showcase of exclusively Cape Verdean music with the Cesária Évora Academy Orchestra and the Cartel Band.
Olavo Correia, who is on the list of 31 honorees, stressed the responsibility of citizens and politicians to invest in Cape Verdean music and culture.
“Cape Verde, if it weren’t for music, would be such a small, irrelevant country that no one would feel proud to have been born Cape Verdean,” he said, emphasizing that it is worth investing in music.
He also guaranteed the government’s commitment to prioritize culture, “a vital sector for the future” of the country and for the construction of a “more diversified economy.”
Therefore, he considered it essential to continue investing in culture and those who promote it in Cape Verde, stressing that the government will do everything possible to allocate an “increasingly larger” budget to the sector.
