Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala has made a move to Algerian side Jeunesse Sportive de la Saoura on loan for the remainder of the season. This announcement was made by the club on Monday.

At the age of 22, Omala is currently the top scorer in this season’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League, having scored nine goals. He most recently featured in Gor Mahia’s 3-1 loss to Kenya Police on Saturday, which marked the team’s first loss of the season.

According to a statement from Gor Mahia, “The two clubs have signed a loan agreement with the possibility of a permanent move if the player impresses JS- Saoura during the loan period.”

The club’s Executive Committee also expressed well wishes for Omala, acknowledging his talent and expressing optimism for a positive relationship between the two clubs now and in the future.

During the previous season, Omala finished as the runner-up in the Golden Boot race, scoring a total of 26 goals, just one less than Elvis Rupia.

Omala first joined Gor Mahia at the start of the 2020/21 season after being transferred from Western Stima. Prior to his time at Gor Mahia, he had scored nine goals in his debut season in the top flight league with Western Stima during the 2019/20 season, all while still attending Kisumu Day High School.

Upon completing his studies, Omala ventured to Sweden to join FC Linkoping City on a nine-month loan deal. However, he decided to terminate his contract after just four months, citing dissatisfaction with his playing position.

The loan agreement with Jeunesse Sportive de la Saoura offers Omala the opportunity to broaden his horizons in a different football environment and showcase his skills at an international level. The move also provides an avenue for professional growth and development, with the potential for a permanent transfer based on his performance during the loan period.

Overall, the transfer to Jeunesse Sportive de la Saoura represents a significant milestone in Omala’s career, offering him the chance to continue his football journey and make valuable contributions to his new club while also representing the talent and potential of Kenyan football on an international stage.
