Google has recently made several updates to its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered language model, Bard, which has now been rebranded as Gemini Pro. These updates are aimed at unleashing more creativity and expanding the reach of the platform to users in various countries.
The most notable change is the rebranding of Bard to Gemini Pro, but there are also functional changes that come along with this update. One major improvement is the expansion of language support, with Gemini Pro now offering over 40 languages and accessibility in more than 230 countries. Additionally, users can now generate images in Bard in most countries and use Gemini Pro in any language, country, and territory where the language model is currently supported.
According to Google, these updates will allow users to take advantage of Bard’s advanced capabilities for tasks such as enhanced understanding and reasoning, improved summarization, and streamlined coding. The platform aims to empower users to leverage the power of AI for a wide range of purposes, from creative projects to everyday tasks.
As part of the rebranding, Bard will now simply be called Gemini. This rebranded version, along with its advanced capabilities, will be known as Gemini Advanced and will offer users a more powerful experience for tasks such as reasoning, following instructions, coding, and creative collaboration. It will serve as a personal tutor, tailored to the user’s learning style, or as a creative partner, helping with content strategy or business planning.
Google also emphasized the role of developers in the Gemini ecosystem, acknowledging their importance in driving technological advancements. The company stated that hundreds of thousands of developers and businesses have already been building with Gemini models, and it plans to share more details on what’s coming for developers and Cloud customers in the near future.
In line with Google’s AI Principles, the company has taken steps to ensure responsible use of the image generation capabilities of Bard. For instance, to prevent the misuse of generated images, Bard uses SynthID to embed digitally identifiable watermarks into the pixels. Additionally, Google has implemented technical guardrails and safety measures to limit the generation of violent, offensive, or sexually explicit content, and to avoid the creation of images of named individuals.
Overall, Google sees these updates as a way to make Bard a more helpful and globally accessible AI collaborator for a wide range of tasks, from large creative projects to everyday activities. The company is committed to continuously improving and expanding the capabilities of Gemini to empower users and developers around the world with advanced AI capabilities.
