Goldstar Air, a wholly owned Ghanaian airline known as the Wings of Ghana, has reached an agreement on incentive packages for the Toronto-Accra route with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). The GTAA operates ten airports, eight heliports, and one water aerodrome, serving airline passengers, regional air travel, and commercial cargo transportation in and around Toronto and its neighboring cities.

Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the busiest airport in Canada, located mainly in Mississauga, and hosts international travel with various airlines. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) on the Toronto Islands is a regional airport that provides regular services to destinations in the United States. John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) in Hamilton serves as a base for low-cost carriers operating domestic and transatlantic routes.

In a move that has placed Toronto twenty-third on the World’s Best Cities list for 2024, Goldstar Air and the GTAA have collaborated to offer ambitious sustainability policies and incentive packages to support the Toronto-Accra route. The GTAA is providing marketing funds to support awareness campaigns for Goldstar Air, including print media, digital/social media, terminal advertising, travel/trade, and inaugural event activities. These promotional activities will work in conjunction with national, provincial, and city tourism organizations to promote the new air services in Toronto.

With the addition of new direct services to Toronto, Goldstar Air aims to enhance investment, tourism, diplomatic relations, socioeconomic bonds, and economic opportunities between Ghana and Canada. The airline is committed to providing passengers with a seamless travel experience, connecting them to their final destinations in an easy and efficient manner.

To further improve connectivity for passengers, Goldstar Air is working with other airlines to establish an airline alliance called Afrik Allianz. This alliance will expand routes, share resources, and provide international passengers with convenient airway connections to multiple destinations.

Toronto Pearson International Airport welcomed 50.5 million annual passengers in 2019, representing one-third of Canada’s air passenger volume. The airport has seen significant growth over the past decade, with the addition of international carriers and direct service to 180 destinations worldwide. In 2022, Toronto Pearson welcomed new airlines and launched over 30 new routes, emphasizing the importance of the Toronto market to the success of the airline.

Toronto’s diverse population, economic contributions, and strategic location make it a key market for Goldstar Air. With plans to expand routes to various destinations in Africa and North America, Goldstar Air aims to become a leading carrier in West Africa and beyond.

In conclusion, with the support of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and other key partners, Goldstar Air is poised to enhance air travel between Ghana and Canada, offering passengers a seamless and convenient travel experience while fostering economic growth and connectivity between the two countries.
