The United Kingdom (UK) is among the countries that are seeking to invest in Homa Bay as the county looks to open up new avenues for economic development. The UK is set to send a delegation to Homa Bay at the end of this month to explore potential investment opportunities in the lakeside county. This was disclosed by the UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan, during a courtesy call on Governor Gladys Wanga.

The UK is keen on establishing partnerships that can significantly improve the livelihoods of the people of Homa Bay and Kenya at large. Mr. Wigan emphasized the importance of UK firms not only investing in Nairobi but also considering investment opportunities in other counties. He has expressed his commitment to engaging business operators from the UK to explore potential investment prospects in Homa Bay.

Homa Bay is scheduled to host its second international investment conference from February 27 to February 29, with the aim of providing a platform where entrepreneurs can discuss business ideas and explore opportunities in various sectors within the county. The conference, which will take place at Tom Mboya University, will focus on potential investment areas such as agriculture (specifically in the edible oil and aquaculture value chain), mining, tourism, the blue economy, and modern housing, among others. The county is actively seeking partnerships with companies to capitalize on business opportunities in these areas.

The UK government’s interest in having its entrepreneurs invest in Homa Bay is part of a wider initiative to provide technical support for the international investment conference in the county. Mr. Wigan highlighted the UK’s intention to send a strong delegation to the conference to identify potential investment opportunities in Homa Bay, with the hope that the conference will bring prosperity to the people of the county. Additionally, the UK government is also looking to develop partnerships with Homa Bay in conservation, health, and economic development.

Ms. Wanga, the Governor of Homa Bay, expressed her administration’s appreciation for the support received from the UK government. She mentioned that the conservation efforts supported by the UK will enable the county government to capitalize on the resources in Lake Victoria, particularly in helping residents earn from the water body. The county is known for its significant water resources, with up to 70% of Lake Victoria lying within its borders. The lake is a vital component of the county’s economy, particularly through fishing and tourism activities.

Overall, the UK’s interest in investing in Homa Bay presents significant opportunities for the county’s economic growth, as it seeks to leverage its natural resources and create mutually beneficial partnerships with international investors. The collaboration between the UK and Homa Bay is poised to not only drive economic development in the county but also contribute to the advancement of livelihoods for its residents.
