Addressing the trainees in Kumasi, Kofi Baah Agyepong, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), emphasized the agency’s commitment to skill training and job creation. Despite initial skepticism about the agency’s ambitious plans, YEA has successfully trained 10,000 youths in various fields such as masonry, carpentry, tiling, plumbing, and beauty care.

A collaborative program between YEA and CSIR-BRRI, the Youth In Brick Production and Construction aims to equip youths with specialized skills to innovate the construction industry. By the end of the year, 21,000 youths will have undergone training to contribute both to their families and national development.

Agyepong highlighted the severity of youth unemployment in Ghana, calling it a national security threat. YEA, with over 200,000 youths registered for job opportunities, plays a significant role in addressing this issue. He praised the government’s support in tackling youth unemployment, acknowledging the importance of empowering youths for national development.

The trainees will receive monthly stipends of GH¢500 during the training, showing the government’s commitment to supporting their growth. The Forestry Research Institute Director, Prof. Daniel Ofori, discussed CSIR-BRRI’s role in developing technologies for socio-economic development, particularly in construction materials and techniques.

The training program will focus on utilizing local materials like burnt bricks in construction, promoting sustainable practices and reducing dependence on imported materials. Participants will gain practical skills and knowledge to thrive in the construction industry, bridging the skills gap and improving professionalism.

Dr. Joe Danquah, the Training Coordinator, outlined the training module’s design to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills for success in burnt bricks making and construction. He emphasized the importance of leveraging local materials for building and construction, encouraging trainees to unlock their potentials with passion and determination.

The program aims to instill professionalism and dedication among the trainees, preparing them for a career in the construction industry. By promoting the use of local materials and eco-friendly practices, the training program aligns with efforts to mitigate climate change and foster sustainable development.

In conclusion, the partnership between YEA and CSIR-BRRI demonstrates a commitment to empowering youths through skill training and job opportunities. The program’s focus on local materials and innovative construction practices highlights the potential for sustainable growth and development in the building industry. Trainees are encouraged to embrace the opportunities provided and strive for excellence in their chosen field.
