The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, recently appointed Mr. Mustapha Sanah, a development management specialist, as the Chief of Dalun. Mr. Sanah was given the traditional title of Dalun-Lana Tapha Mahamadu II.
In addition to his new role as a traditional leader, Mr. Mustapha Sanah also serves as the Executive Chairman of Northern Development and Democratic Institute (NDDI), a prominent liberal democratic public policy think-tank based in Tamale, in the Northern Region.
During the enskinment ceremony at the Gbewaa Palace, Dalun-Lana Tapha Mahamadu II was praised for his commitment to peace, development, and harmony within and between different ethnic groups in Dagbon and Northern Ghana. Many people described him as a pragmatist and a progressive royal of Dagbon, prioritizing sustainable development in the region.
Before his appointment as the Chief of Dalun, Mr. Mustapha Sanah served Ya-Na Abukari II in various capacities. He was involved in finance, protocol, and publicity committees during the investiture of Ya-Na Abukari II in 2019. In addition, he worked as a speechwriter at the office of the Ya-Na and coordinated external relations affairs for the King of Dagbon.
Mr. Mustapha Sanah’s royal lineage can be traced back to the royal family of Dagbon. He is the son of His Royal Highness, Diare-Lana Amadu-Sanah, a grandson of Diare-lana Dahamani. His grandfather was a respected chief of Diare and an Islamic scholar and astronomer. Furthermore, Dalun-Lana Tapha Mahamadu II’s lineage is closely connected to the historical figures and events of the region, emphasizing his deep roots within Dagbon’s royal history.
The Dalun Traditional Area, where Mr. Mustapha Sanah has been appointed, is a farming region and a crucial geo-political zone located in the North-West of Tamale, along the White Volta, and near Kumbungu.
