World Vision Ghana (WVG) recently hosted a press soiree in anticipation of World Water Day (WWD), aiming to foster stronger ties with the media and collaborate on initiatives that promote community and national development. The ultimate goal is to work hand in hand to drive progress and create a positive impact on society. WWD is commemorated annually on March 22 to raise awareness about the significance of clean water and advocate for the sustainable management of water resources.

During the event, Mr. Joshua Baidoo, Integrated Programmes Director at WVG, highlighted the organization’s commitment to the theme of “Water for Peace” for this year’s WWD celebration. As a Christian organization with a focus on children, WVG is dedicated to providing hope, joy, and justice to all children, especially the most vulnerable and their families. Their mission is centered around addressing the root causes of poverty and injustice that hinder children’s growth and development in society. WVG strives to create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive and experience the fullness of life.

Mr. Baidoo emphasized the vital role of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in enhancing children’s quality of life. WVG recognizes the importance of safe drinking water and has made it a top priority in their programs. Their efforts have resulted in the communities they serve gaining access to clean and safe drinking water, leading to a decline in water-related illnesses like diarrhoea and cholera, which can be life-threatening for children. Two years ago, WVG launched a five-year strategic plan with the aim of reaching 3.3 million of the most vulnerable children with essential development interventions, including WASH services, quality education, healthcare, food and nutrition support, livelihood and income generation programs, and child-focused projects.

Mr. Yaw Atta Arhin, the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Technical Coordinator for WVG, highlighted the crucial role of the media in amplifying the voices of the most vulnerable children, their families, and communities in dire need of clean and safe drinking water. He urged the media, as well as government ministries, departments, and agencies, to join hands with WVG in their mission to enhance the well-being of children and their families.

The press soiree served as a platform for WVG to reinforce their dedication to improving access to clean water and promoting the well-being of children and families. By collaborating with the media and other stakeholders, WVG is set to make a meaningful impact in driving progress and advocating for the sustainable management of water resources. In line with the theme of “Water for Peace,” WVG continues to champion initiatives that contribute to the holistic development of children and communities.
