The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, recently addressed the media at a seminar ahead of the 13th African Games (AG) scheduled to commence on March 8 in Accra. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the AG as a platform to showcase the country’s beautiful tourism sites and promote Ghana on a global scale. The Minister urged the media to provide adequate coverage to promote the Games and the country as a whole.
During the seminar, experienced journalists such as Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, Mr. Carl Tufuor, Roseline Amoh, Erasmus Quao, and Gary Al Smith shared their experiences and offered guidance for the media coverage of the upcoming Games. The Minister highlighted the significance of the Games in promoting sports and Ghanaian tourism, stressing the need for media preparedness and comprehensive coverage.
The Minister emphasized that the AG presents a unique opportunity to showcase Ghana to the rest of Africa and the world. He called for support from the corporate sector to ensure the successful staging of one of the continent’s premier sporting events. The Minister commended the dedication of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the success of the Games.
Mr. Ernest Danso, Ghana’s Chef de Mission for the African Games, disclosed that over 500 athletes are currently in camp, undergoing intensive preparations for the Games. He expressed confidence in Team Ghana’s readiness to compete and strive for an improved medal tally compared to previous editions of the African Games.
In terms of media rights and coverage, Mr. George Lomotey, a representative of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), revealed that the opening ceremony of the AG would be broadcast live on all television stations across the country. He emphasized the importance of all TV stations collaborating to provide comprehensive coverage of the Games to Ghanaian fans.
Additionally, presentations on legal and marketing aspects were delivered by Eva Okyere and Yaw Sakyi, respectively, highlighting the importance of structured planning to ensure successful and well-organized coverage of the Games. The media and corporate sector were urged to secure the necessary rights and provide the Games with the best publicity possible.
The seminar concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to collaborate and work together to make the 13th African Games a resounding success.
