The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the educational sector is a crucial driver of economic and social development, as well as educational transformation. It plays a significant role in equipping students with relevant skills and competencies needed to thrive in globally competitive industries.
In Ghana, the incorporation of ICT in the education curriculum aims to empower students to take charge of their own learning, think critically, solve real-world problems, collaborate, make ethical decisions, and have a global perspective. This initiative also provides access to expert teachers and resources for students in remote areas and enables policymakers to make data-driven decisions more efficiently.
One corporate organization at the forefront of championing ICT integration in education in Ghana is Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank). As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, GTBank has been focused on enhancing ICT education in deprived basic schools across the country through their ‘GTBank ICT Drive’ project.
Through this project, GTBank has undertaken various initiatives to provide critical ICT equipment and infrastructure to support basic schools and tertiary institutions. They have refurbished and stocked computers, printers, projectors, and internet access for eight public basic schools. This support aims to level the playing field for all students, ensuring they have access to the same opportunities for greatness.
GTBank’s commitment to ICT education is evident through their projects at schools like the Anumle Cluster of Schools, Bethel AME Zion Junior High School, Ayi Mensah Basic School, and Atonsu MA Cluster of Schools, among others. These schools have received ICT equipment and infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning in ICT, preparing students for the digital future.
In addition to their ICT education initiatives, GTBank has also supported healthcare services in the country by donating medical equipment to hospitals. They have organized workshops and consultations to promote inclusivity for persons on the Autism Spectrum, showcasing their dedication to driving positive change in various sectors.
From disaster relief support to investments in entertainment and sports, scholarships for needy students, and promoting inclusivity, GTBank’s initiatives have had a significant impact on the well-being of Ghanaians. Their commitment to driving change and enhancing the lives of individuals, families, and communities is commendable and will have a lasting impact for years to come. GTBank’s leadership in driving positive change through their various initiatives makes them a trusted partner in the advancement of education, healthcare, and social inclusion in Ghana.
