A total of 115 students from African Freelancers (TAF) College have successfully graduated from the tuition-free school with a range of valuable skills that will equip them to become successful entrepreneurs. These students, hailing from countries such as Cameroon, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria, underwent training in various fields including graphic designing, cinematography, music production, digital marketing, cosmetology, fashion design, real estate management, and event management.

During the college’s inaugural graduation ceremony held in Accra, Rev. Johnnie Oquaye, the founder and president of TAF College, highlighted the significance of this achievement in the institution’s mission to empower school dropouts and unemployed youth by providing them with innovative enterprise development skills. He emphasized how the college has created opportunities for creative talents from across Africa to thrive without being hindered by financial constraints or social barriers.

Furthermore, Rev. Oquaye announced plans for the college’s expansion in the upcoming year, which includes the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Department to offer high-quality training for students interested in the rapidly growing AI industry. He acknowledged the support of donors and the sacrifices made by lecturers, who received only 40% of their salaries to support the school.

In a keynote address, Mr. Gobah Tenge Seddo, an International Peace Ambassador, encouraged the graduates to embrace honesty, dedication, and hard work in their entrepreneurial pursuits. He advised them to focus on job creation, set new standards, form cooperatives, and exhibit patience and tolerance in their endeavors.

Mr. Charles Abani, the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Ghana, urged young individuals to explore opportunities in various developmental sectors such as job creation, food security, digitization, energy, climate change, and education to make a positive impact on the country. He stressed the importance of engaging in partnerships to build enterprises and giving back to sustain the college for future generations.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Professor Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament. Additionally, Mr. Johanna Svanikier, founder and president of The HACSA Foundation, commended the college’s management for their skills training initiatives and expansion of training programs. He pledged enhanced collaboration, particularly in equipping girls with ICT skills.

In closing, the Executive Director of the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling, Nana Gyamfi Adwabour, urged the graduates to enhance their digital skills along with the other skills acquired at TAF College. The successful graduation of these 115 students is a testament to the institution’s commitment to transforming lives and fostering entrepreneurship among African youth.
