The St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Gbawe emerged victorious in the church’s Annual Easter Fun Games organized by the Lutheran Media Ministry Ghana (LMMG) in collaboration with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana (ELCG). The event, held in Accra, served as a fitting conclusion to the Easter festivities.
The primary aim of this joint effort was to enhance internal evangelism, promote healthy living, and foster unity among Lutheran churches in the Greater Accra region. Participating congregations included St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kanda, All Saints Lutheran Church in Anyaa, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Gbawe, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Madina, Calvary Lutheran Church in Ashaiman, Christ Lutheran Church in Seduase, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Tema.
The activities included a variety of games such as the 100-meter race, 50-meter walk, thread and needle, filling the bottle, musical chairs, sword drill, apple on the string, sack race, ludu, cards, draught, lime and spoon, eating competition, penalty kicks, and soccer. These games provided a platform for members to engage in friendly competition and socialize with one another.
Isaac Owusu-Hemeng, the Chairman of the Lutheran Seminary Board, emphasized that the event served as an annual gathering for Lutheran churches to come together, have fun, share the word of God, and strengthen their internal evangelism initiatives. By opting for a collective celebration over individual picnics, participants were able to not only enjoy fellowship but also reaffirm their dedication to a well-rounded approach to life.
Mr. Owusu-Hemeng encouraged the youth to embrace and embody the teachings of Christ, which can lead to a happier and more fulfilling life. He highlighted the importance of staying focused on the message of joy, friendliness, and the eternal life that Jesus Christ brings, especially during festive seasons like Easter.
Nicholas Sarkodie, the Director of LMMG, addressed concerns about potential distractions from the true essence of Easter. He acknowledged the tendency for individuals to lose sight of the spiritual significance of the holiday amid the celebrations but emphasized the need to remain centered on the message of joy, friendliness, and the promise of eternal life that Jesus Christ offers.
In conclusion, the Easter Fun Games organized by the Lutheran Media Ministry Ghana and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana provided an opportunity for Lutheran congregations in the Greater Accra region to come together, strengthen their bonds, and celebrate the Easter season in a spirit of unity and fellowship. Through friendly competition, shared experiences, and a focus on the teachings of Christ, participants were able to engage in meaningful interactions that reinforced their commitment to living a holistic and Christ-centered life.
