Ghana: Set right priorities to fix economy …Otumfuo Osei Tutu tasks Finance Minister-designate

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, recently met with the Minister of finance designate, Mohamed Amin Adam, to discuss the urgent need for changes and development in the country. Asantehene emphasized the importance of living up to the expectation to justify the President’s confidence in the Minister’s new role. It is a significant responsibility and the Minister should prioritize it accordingly.

During the courtesy call, the Asantehene acknowledged the challenges facing the economy, urging the Minister to reflect these challenges in setting the right priorities. The Asantehene highlighted the need for visible changes that Ghanaians expect to see.

In response, the Minister assured the Asantehene that he would endeavor to accelerate stalled projects in the Ashanti Region. Despite a lack of funds causing project delays, the Minister reiterated the government’s determination to complete these projects. He also commended the Asantehene for his contributions to national development.

This courtesy call also included a visit to the Maternity block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the Kumasi International Airport, and an interaction with the Ashanti Regional Minister. At the Airport, the Minister mentioned that the government had released €7 million and would soon release an outstanding amount of €2 million for the completion of the airport project. He emphasized the importance of completing the project and urged the contractor to meet the deadline.

The Project Manager explained the necessity of finishing the installation of the Control Tower to pave the way for the demolition of the old facility, which was not in compliance with international airport rules. At KATH, the Minister assured that efforts were underway for the contractor to return to the site for the completion of the facility. He stated that the government had released €14 million for the project.

The Ashanti Region Minister appealed for the Finance Minister to prioritize the completion of the Kumasi International Airport, KATH Maternity block, and the construction of the Ahenema Kokoben to Anwia Nkwanta road.

Overall, the meeting between the Asantehene and the Minister emphasized the pressing need for change and development in the country to bring about visible improvements. The Minister’s commitment to completing stalled projects and efforts to ensure fund releases for various construction projects was underscored during the meeting. Both parties reached an understanding on the importance of expediting development initiatives for the benefit of Ghanaians.
