Abdul Karim Zito, the Head Coach of Dreams FC, is proud of his team’s performance in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup, believing that their success will now make clubs on the African continent take them seriously. Dreams FC surprised many by reaching the semi-finals after defeating Stade Malien in the quarter-finals.

Zito felt that his team was underestimated throughout the competition, especially by Stade Malien who looked at Dreams FC’s position on the Ghana Premier League table and their lack of experience in the tournament. Despite this, Dreams FC managed to qualify for the semis with a 3-2 aggregate victory over Stade Malien, with a 2-1 win in Bamako followed by a 1-1 draw in Ghana.

The Head Coach expressed his happiness for the young club, stating, “They’ll now take us seriously but it’s late.” He believes that this qualification will push his team to work even harder as they strive to make it to the final of the competition. Dreams FC’s achievement marks the first time in 20 years that a Ghanaian club has reached the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, with Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko being the last to do so in 2005.

In the quarter-final match against Stade Malien, after a goalless first half, Stade Malien took the lead through York Diaby on the 60th minute. However, Dreams FC fought back and managed to equalize the score 10 minutes later through Sylvester Simba, securing their place in the semi-finals.

The journey to the semi-finals has been a significant milestone for Dreams FC, showcasing their potential and determination as a rising club in African football. Zito and his players are eager to continue their impressive run and are focused on reaching the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Overall, Dreams FC’s success has garnered attention and respect from the football community, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in African club football. The team’s journey to the semi-finals serves as a testament to their hard work, talent, and dedication, setting a new standard for Ghanaian clubs on the continental stage. The future looks bright for Dreams FC as they continue to make strides in the CAF Confederation Cup and beyond.
