Ghana: Prudential Bank holds maiden women empowerment seminar

Prudential Bank Ltd (PBL), a prominent indigenous bank, recently hosted its inaugural women’s empowerment seminar with the theme “Empowering Women for Sustainable Business Growth.” The event took place in Accra and was specifically tailored for the female employees of the bank in alignment with principle four of the Ghana Sustainable Banking Principles (GSBPS) of the Bank of Ghana, which emphasizes the importance of promoting gender equality within the operations of banks and their clients.

The seminar served as a platform to demonstrate the bank’s dedication to Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as to expand employee perspectives, foster strong teamwork, and cultivate a balanced workforce essential for achieving the bank’s goals. The event featured seasoned professionals who shared their experiences, shedding light on women’s empowerment and its benefits for both society and organizations.

The panelists included distinguished individuals such as Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, Professor (Mrs) Rosemond Boohene, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Dr (Mrs) Irene Stella Agyenim-Boateng, Vice Chairperson of the Public Services Commission, and Dr James S. Dzisah, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology, University of Ghana.

Mr. Bernard Gyebi, the Managing Director of Prudential Bank, emphasized the bank’s commitment to sustainability, as evidenced by the approval of the bank’s sustainability policy and strategy by the board. He underscored the importance of Gender Equality through Diversity and Inclusion for sustainable business growth and acknowledged the significant contributions women make, emphasizing the need to empower them to accelerate progress.

COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah highlighted the importance of women empowering themselves, being assertive, improving their self-worth, standing out, and seizing opportunities. She also stressed the need for women to establish strong support systems to help them achieve their goals.

Dr. Irene Stella Agyenim-Boateng emphasized that women must take control of their destiny by empowering themselves and shedding stereotypes and self-imposed limitations that hold them back. She emphasized the importance of upgrading skills, pursuing relevant courses, and obtaining professional certifications to advance their careers.

Professor Mrs. Rosemond Boohene and Dr. James Dzisah discussed the need for institutional changes to support women’s empowerment, highlighting the importance of creating an enabling environment for women to thrive professionally.

The seminar showcased Prudential Bank’s commitment to women’s empowerment and its determination to create a lasting positive change for a better future. The event was a significant step towards promoting gender equality and empowering women within the bank and beyond.
