The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, recently addressed beneficiaries of scholarship programmes, encouraging them to make the most of their opportunities by expanding their studies and utilizing their time at their respective institutions. He emphasized that this would enable them to have a positive impact on their communities and contribute to the transformation of both local and national levels.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary of the Lebanese Community Scholarship Programme and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network (LESAN) in Accra, President Akufo-Addo praised the Lebanese Community in Ghana for their support of Ghanaian students through the scholarship programme. He acknowledged the strong bond between Ghana and Lebanon and highlighted the importance of education in government policies such as the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Student Loan Trust Fund policies.
The Lebanese Scholarship Programme, according to the President, serves as a model partnership that can bring about positive change. He pointed to the progress made by countries like Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea in eradicating illiteracy and empowering their citizens with skills for national development. President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of continuing the strong relationship between Ghana and Lebanon for the benefit of future generations.
The Ambassador of Lebanon to Ghana, Mr. Maher Kheir, highlighted the success of the scholarship programme, which has supported over 600 students in pursuing higher education at various tertiary institutions in Ghana. He noted the expansion of the programme to include fields such as performing arts, film and television, public relations, and research seminars for postgraduate students at the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC).
Mr. Kheir commended the students involved in the programme for their resilience and determination, as well as the vice-chancellors, deans, and faculty heads for their commitment to providing quality education. He expressed Lebanon’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Ghana through LESAN for greater global impact and thanked the Lebanese Community in Ghana, the Scholarship Committee, and other sponsors for their support over the last decade.
