President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo praised the late Chairman of the Church of Pentecost (COP), Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy, for his dedication to service and his contributions to Ghana’s democratic growth. Akufo-Addo stated that Apostle Ntumy’s main goal was always the advancement of Ghana, and even during his times of ill-health, he continued to play a critical role in the nation’s development.
The President’s words were conveyed through Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the burial and memorial service of the former COP Chair at the State House in Accra. Akufo-Addo highlighted Apostle Ntumy’s honesty, integrity, and discipline, describing him as an exceptional servant of the Church, the Ghanaian people, and the public interest. He noted that the late Chairman’s passing had created a significant void not only within the Church of Pentecost but also in the broader Christian community, as he was a constant source of valuable Christian guidance.
The President remarked that Apostle Ntumy had completed his life’s work remarkably, leaving a legacy of distinction. At the service, the current COP Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, delivered a sermon on the theme “A man greatly loved,” drawing parallels between the lives of Daniel and Apostle Ntumy. Nyamekye emphasized their righteousness and dedication to serving God, even in the face of life-threatening situations, urging attendees, especially ministers, to be inspired by Apostle Ntumy’s life and remain devoted to God during adversity.
Tributes were shared by Apostle Ntumy’s widow, children, the Church, and the State, praising him for his exemplary leadership, wisdom, discerning counsel, and unwavering commitment to serving God. Born on September 22, 1958, in Dadieso in the Oti Region, Apostle Ntumy passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 65, leaving behind a widow and six children. He began his career as a teacher in Yendi before transitioning to roles as a Deacon, Elder, and eventually, an Apostle and the fourth Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.
Despite facing challenges, such as being held hostage during the Liberian Civil War and surviving assassination attempts, Apostle Ntumy persevered in his service to the Church. The burial and memorial service attracted dignitaries such as former President John Dramani Mahama, Chief of Staff Mrs. Frema Osei Opare, ministers of state, judges, and other prominent figures honoring the late Chairman’s life.
Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, a former Chairman of COP, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the current Chairman, and Archbishop Charles Agyinasare of Perez Chapel International were among the clergy present at the solemn occasion to pay their respects. The event was covered by Vivian Arthur.
