Dr. George Tettegah, a Physician Specialist and philanthropist, recently made a generous donation to two health facilities in Ghana. The donation included two delivery beds and surgical instruments to improve the birthing process for both patients and caregivers at Maame Krobo Health Centre in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District and the Lekpongunor Community-Based Health and Planning Services (CHPS) Compound in the Ningo-Prampram District.
The motivation behind Dr. Tettegah’s donation stemmed from a heartbreaking incident that occurred in the Afram Plains South District last year. A pregnant woman had to be delivered in a tricycle because the CHPS compound lacked a proper delivery bed. This incident deeply moved Dr. Tettegah, prompting him to provide these essential resources to underserved communities.
While there are many health facilities in deprived areas lacking such amenities, Dr. Tettegah chose these two beneficiaries because of their significant impact on the communities. The selection criteria included a sizable population with a high number of annual deliveries and trained staff to operate the beds.
Dr. Tettegah plans to continue supporting healthcare delivery in Ghana by making similar donations to deserving communities every six months. He emphasized the importance of the beneficiary facilities developing effective maintenance plans to ensure the equipment remains in good condition and serves patients effectively.
Gifty Ofori Ansah, Director of Health for the Ningo Prampram District, expressed gratitude for Dr. Tettegah’s donation, recognizing the positive impact it would have on rural communities. She highlighted the increase in baby deliveries in the district and noted that the equipment would enhance safety and support vulnerable members of the community.
Richard Essien, Director of Health Service for the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, commended the timely donation, which addresses the lack of access to quality baby delivery services in the area. He stressed the importance of continued support from stakeholders in the health sector to address the equipment needs of rural health facilities.
In conclusion, Dr. Tettegah’s philanthropic gesture reflects a commitment to improving healthcare services in underserved communities. By providing essential resources to these health facilities, he ensures that patients receive the care they deserve, and caregivers have the tools they need to deliver safe and effective services. The impact of his donation will be felt for years to come, touching the lives of many in need.
