The Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, recently shared that the government has successfully completed and validated over 13,000 infrastructure projects between January 2017 and June 2023. These projects cover a wide range of areas including roads, telephony sites, school projects, and interchanges, among others. With 88.75% electricity coverage for the country, the government has made significant progress in improving infrastructure across Ghana.

At the launch of the Performance Tracker, a new application designed to provide real-time information on the performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Mr. Nkrumah emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in government projects. The Tracker is an updated version of the delivery tracker that was launched in 2020 by Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia. Its main aim is to help the public track all government projects and monitor progress.

Through the Performance Tracker, the government aims to showcase its investment and development activities, especially in infrastructure and service delivery. This platform will also address questions from journalists, civil society organizations, and academics about the utilization of state resources. By providing detailed information on government projects, the Tracker aims to promote accountability and transparency.

The Performance Tracker consists of five key parts with information organized into five key buckets. It is designed to be user-friendly and accessible through both a website and a mobile application. The database has undergone a rigorous validation process, including geo-tagging and photographing projects to ensure transparency. By making this information easily accessible, the government aims to improve transparency and accountability in project delivery.

The Minister of Information designate, Fatimah Abubakar, highlighted the challenges faced in monitoring government projects over the years. To address these challenges, the government developed the Performance Tracker as a mechanism that is convenient, credible, and accessible to all Ghanaians. Through collaboration with various government entities, accurate information on government projects was collected and compiled in the Tracker.

The Performance Tracker has been carefully curated to remove duplicates and ensure accuracy through a collaborative validation process with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). This platform will provide Ghanaians with real-time information on government projects across the country. By empowering citizens with this data, the Tracker aims to enhance accountability and monitoring of government projects towards the national development agenda.

In conclusion, the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability is evident through initiatives like the Performance Tracker. By providing detailed information on government projects and progress, the government aims to build trust with the public and ensure the efficient delivery of infrastructure and services for the development of Ghana as a whole.
