The Kokrokoo Charities Foundation recently demonstrated their commitment to supporting premature and sick newborns by donating a third incubator to the Paediatrics and Child Health Department of the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta Region. In addition to the incubator, the Foundation also provided two fridges, sanitary tissues, scrubs, crocs, cover coats, and mobile phones to the hospital as part of their ongoing efforts to improve the quality of care for children in need through their “Project 100” initiative.

Since 2018, the Foundation has been working closely with the hospital to provide essential medical equipment and supplies. This recent donation adds to the two previous incubators given to the hospital by the Foundation, bringing the total number of donated incubators to 55 across various hospitals in the country. Recognizing the significant need for incubators in Ghana, where approximately 140,000 children are born premature each year and over 8,000 die before their 30th day, the Foundation is aiming to raise funds to purchase 100 incubators to equip Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) in different health facilities.

Mr. Kwami Sefa Kayi, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kokrokoo Charities Foundation, expressed his commitment to making a positive impact on the health and well-being of children in Ghana. He highlighted the Foundation’s partnership with the hospital under its corporate social responsibility initiative and emphasized their continued support to provide high-quality healthcare to all patients. Mr. Kayi shared his vision of acquiring 100 incubators in the long run to enhance healthcare delivery in the country and thanked all those who supported the Foundation financially to acquire the latest incubator.

Dr. Richard Bright Danyoh, Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the Hospital, acknowledged the impact of the donated incubator and other items in improving their services for preterm babies. With an average of 250 to 300 preterm births annually at the hospital, the supply of incubators enables them to care for a significant number of these vulnerable infants. Dr. Danyoh also highlighted the hospital’s improved survival rate for preterm babies, particularly those born before 28 weeks, with a mortality rate dropping to 15% between 2022 and 2023.

Dr. Danyoh urged the Foundation and other benevolent individuals and organizations to consider establishing a hostel to accommodate mothers of preterm babies, as they currently have nowhere to stay during the waiting period for their incubated infants. He called on corporate organizations to support the Foundation in achieving its goal by engaging in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in critical areas such as healthcare.

The donation and support provided by the Kokrokoo Charities Foundation exemplify their dedication to improving the healthcare system in Ghana and ensuring better outcomes for premature and sick newborns.By continuing to collaborate with hospitals and healthcare providers, the Foundation aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of children in need across the country. Through their efforts, they are not only helping to save lives but also contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
